My heart is breaking for all of those faithful priests of the Legionary of Christ and members of the Regnum Christi movement who are finding themselves at a painful crossroads. My own journey of faith has been inspired by so many of these good men and women. The beautiful consecrated women of Regnum Christi were incredibly influential in my life, helping me to understand my vocation as a new wife and mother. The priests, so fervent and reverent, inspired in me a new respect and love for the priesthood and a desire to grow closer to my Eucharistic Lord.
In spite of the personal difficulties I have had with the movement over the years and the terrible scandal which is cutting to the core of the unity of the order, I am profoundly grateful for those who have given their lives in service to Christ through the Legion. I pray that this turbulence will not shake their faith but renew in them a commitment to the truth of Jesus Christ and his Church.
As I continue to hear about American Legionary priests departing the order to seek diocesan placement in the U.S., I can't help but be a little bit excited. These are good men and good priests. They are not simply running from a small problem but following the guidance of the Holy Spirit as the Divine Surgeon works on the diseased heart of the Legion. They are not losing their faith or vocations. It remains to be seen whether the order as an institution can survive this trial but I pray and hope that the good fruits will not be lost. These men are giving me hope. Think any would like to come to Northeast Ohio?
