Pray, Play, Think, Link and Sew...

Tomorrow is the feast of St. Thomas Aquinas, the patron of students (and our homeschool). I thought it fitting to share the prayer we say before we begin our school day and also a prayer for before study (the latter written by St. Thomas).

Direct, O Lord, we beseech You, all our actions by Your holy inspirations, and carry them on by Your gracious assistance, that every prayer and work of ours may begin always from You and by You be happily ended. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Hail Mary. Glory be.

V. Seat of Wisdom,
R. Pray for us.

V. St. Thomas Aquinas,
R. Pray for us.

V. Bless us, O Virgin Mary,
R. With thy Holy Child.

Prayer before Study
St. Thomas Aquinas

Creator past telling, you have appointed from the treasures of your wisdom the hierarchies of angels, disposing them in wondrous order above the bright heavens, and have so beautifully set out all parts of the universe. You we call the true fount of wisdom and the noble origin of all things. Be pleased to shed on the darkness of mind in which I was born, the twofold beam of your light and warmth to dispel my ignorance and sin. You make eloquent the tongues of children. Then instruct my speech and touch my lips with graciousness. Make me keen to understand, quick to interpret and ready to speak. Guide my going in and going forward, and lead home my going forth. You are true God and true man, and live for ever and ever. Amen.

Having trouble finding a particular book? Book Finder is a great search engine that homeschoolers in particular may find useful. (Also excellent for theologian bibliophiles looking for out-of-print tomes.)

Cute knit skirt pattern available for download at You Can Make This. Looks super, super easy and perfect for pregnant and postpartum mamas. I love sewing with knits fabrics and the fabric choices available these days are fantastic.
